St. John the Apostle tells us at the beginning of his gospel, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” That is why reading and studying the Word, the Bible, is essential to our faith; to know God. The Bible is the story of God interacting with the people He has chosen to be His own. The more we know of this story, the deeper our relationship with God will be and our love of God will grow.
The Bible is a fascinating book! It has 73 books of different genres, it was written over a thousand years, has many different authors, but has one theme. Our salvation is the thread through the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Just reading the Bible isn’t enough, it must be in our hearts and put into practice in our lives.
The focus is to prepare for the up-coming weekend Mass. The authors of the Biblical readings, the historical settings of the readings, and the themes of the readings are discussed. We pray together, study together, learn together to be better prepared to participate in and appreciate the Sunday Mass. This is a dynamic group.
